A former Nebraska state representative was jailed after a grand jury indicted him on manslaughter charges in connection with the October shooting death of a man, prosecutors announced Friday.
Lancaster County Attorney Pat Condon announced the indictment of former Seward County Deputy Anthony Gunn. Condon said Gunn was jailed on $100,000 bail and his first court appearance is scheduled for Monday. It was not immediately clear whether Mr. Gunn has a lawyer.
A man was shot 13 times during a Chicago traffic stop, and police officers fired nearly 100 shots, an autopsy shows.
Seward County Sheriff Michael Vance told the Lincoln Journal Star that Gunn has resigned. Vance said an internal investigation by his office found that Gunn committed no violations or procedural violations.

The shooting occurred on the afternoon of Oct. 23 when a deputy tried to stop Jorge Santana Ramirez, 43, on Interstate 80. Instead of stopping, Santana Ramirez turned his vehicle around and drove east in the westbound lanes, according to the sheriff’s office. for a moment before entering the eastbound lanes.

The long chase ended in Lancaster County. The shooting occurred after a passenger refused to exit the vehicle and the deputy “observed a weapon in the driver’s hand,” the sheriff’s office said. Santana-Ramirez died at the scene.
