Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo subjected at least 13 female state employees to a “sexually hostile work environment,” according to a settlement agreement reached between the Department of Justice and the New York State Executive Chamber. was.

The agreement resolves Democratic allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation against Mr. Cuomo, the Justice Department announced Friday.

The nine-page agreement says Cuomo subjected female employees to unwelcome and non-consensual sexual touching, “harassment” and gender-based nicknames. “Senior officials were aware of the then-governor's actions and retaliated against the four women,” the settlement states.

“The executive branch's response was not intended to protect employees from sexual harassment, but solely to protect Mr. Cuomo from further accusations,” the settlement states.

Cuomo's attorney, Rita Glavine, said in a statement that Cuomo had not harassed anyone and said the Justice Department's investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James was “deeply flawed, inaccurate, and biased.” “This is based on a misleading report.”

“This is nothing more than a political solution without an investigation,” Glavine said.

Cuomo is suing James for documents related to a 2021 investigation into sexual harassment allegations that led to his resignation in August 2021 following bombshell statements about James' alleged misconduct.

In a separate statement, Cuomo press secretary Rich Azzopardi said the Justice Department's investigation “is not worth the paper it's printed on.”

Marian Wang, an attorney for two women who say they were harassed by Mr. Cuomo, said, “The federal prosecutor's office and the executive branch must take serious steps to ensure that the kind of abuse Mr. Cuomo committed never happens again.'' I'm glad they gave it to me,” he said.

“We hope that these measures will have a real impact and prevent repeated abuses of power that have caused so much harm to so many women,” she added.

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-New York) criticized Cuomo and his denials of sexual harassment allegations.
