Former New York Giants offensive lineman Chad Wheeler was found guilty of first- and second-degree domestic violence and sentenced to 81 months in prison.
In addition, the former player will have to pay restitution and be given a 36-month suspended sentence.

In January 2021, while playing in Seattle, Wheeler assaulted his then-girlfriend, leaving her unconscious with a broken arm and multiple facial injuries. Her victim, Aleah Taylor, said she lost consciousness multiple times during the attack.

In an interview with USA TodayTaylor said he viewed the ruling as a victory.
Taylor: “I’m very satisfied.” Said. “It’s unprecedented that a black woman was able to get justice from a white NFL player. A lot of people doubted it, that I would get justice and that he would go to prison. Today “We are very grateful that we were able to receive justice, and this sends a message to other people in power that they will be held accountable.”

Wheeler never played in the NFL again after being released by the Seahawks following his arrest.
