Greg Hardy Arrested for Alleged Family Assault
Former NFL player Greg Hardy was arrested on Wednesday after reportedly assaulting a family member. Records indicate that the incident took place around 2 PM local time, leading to his detainment by the Richardson Police Department. Hardy faces one charge of assault resulting in physical injuries.
The 36-year-old defensive player, who was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, has a history of legal troubles related to domestic violence. He spent five seasons with the Panthers before being placed on the Commissioner’s exempt list in 2014 due to incidents involving domestic violence.
According to reports, Hardy’s ex-girlfriend accused him of assaulting her, which led to an initial conviction. However, these charges were later dismissed when she did not appear for a second trial.
Despite his impressive stats—recording 34 sacks and 203 tackles with the Panthers—Hardy was not re-signed after the season ended. He went on to join the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent in 2015 but played only 12 games, facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy linked to the earlier domestic violence case.
After leaving the Cowboys, Hardy transitioned to mixed martial arts, making his debut in 2018. He had a notable win against Juan Adams in July 2019.
