Former NFL player Jay Cutler sued for DUI accident

Jay Cutler Faces DUI Charges and Lawsuit Following October Accident

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler has found himself in legal trouble after being sued in a Tennessee court on Tuesday for a DUI incident from October. The ex-Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos player was arrested when his pickup truck allegedly forced another vehicle backward.

According to police reports, Cutler exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and an alcohol smell. Disturbingly, he reportedly offered other drivers $2,000 to avoid contacting law enforcement about the incident.

In court, Cutler pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and has been sentenced to four days in Williamson County Jail, beginning September 29. In addition, he faces a $350 fine. Following his release, Cutler will be on unsupervised probation for a year and will need to participate in DUI safety classes.

As if that weren’t enough, Cutler is also dealing with a lawsuit filed by Perry Lee, whose car was damaged in the incident. Lee is seeking more than $25,000 in damages. His attorney emphasized the challenges faced by Lee, a veteran who claims the injuries from the accident have significantly impacted his daily life.

“We seek justice for him so he can receive the care needed to move past this ordeal,” the lawyer articulated in a statement. Until now, Cutler has not made any comments in court regarding the lawsuit.

Cutler, who was drafted 11th overall by the Broncos in 2006 after his time at Vanderbilt, played 37 games for Denver before transferring to the Bears, where he spent most of his 12-year career. Throughout his time in the NFL, he threw for 23,443 yards and 154 touchdowns over 102 games with Chicago, leading the team to one playoff appearance in 2010.

After completing his NFL trajectory with 35,133 passing yards and 160 touchdowns, including his last season with the Miami Dolphins in 2017, it seems like the former athlete is now facing significant personal and legal challenges.
