Former NFLPA Director Resigns Amid Strip Club Controversy
Lloyd Howell Jr., the former executive director of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), stepped down recently, reportedly citing distractions caused by his leadership. I mean, it’s quite the story unfolding.
Howell, who is 59 years old, arrived in Miami on November 2, 2023, and made a surprising stop at Tootsie’s Cabaret, a well-known strip club, before heading to his nearby apartment in Sunny Isles Beach. Apparently, union finance staff dug up this information, which raises eyebrows, you know?
The cabaret’s marketing tagline is, interestingly, “Full Nude #1 Review My Am Strip Club.” It really makes you wonder about the choices being made here.
According to reports, the driver who transported Howell was instructed to wait for a long seven hours while he was inside the club. When all was said and done, the driver dropped him off at his apartment around 6 a.m.
In another revelation, during this year’s NFLPA Summit, Howell, accompanied by two other union members, visited another strip club called Magic City. The expenditure for that outing was a staggering $2,426, which included using two VIP rooms. There were, of course, several cash withdrawals as well.
The expense report labeled this trip as a “player engagement event to support and grow the union.” It’s an interesting interpretation of “support and grow,” isn’t it?
The NFLPA hasn’t made any comments regarding these reports. Howell, on his part, expressed in his resignation statement that he felt his leadership had diverted attention from the important work of the NFLPA.
In his resignation, Howell noted, “I have informed the NFLPA Executive Committee that I have resigned as NFLPA executive director and chair of the board of directors of NFLPA.” It’s a significant shift, to say the least.
Howell was elected president of the union in 2024, making this resignation all the more unexpected. He has yet to respond to requests for comments on the matter, which leaves you wondering how it all unfolded.
