Mikhail Grabovski Faces Legal Issues After Hockey Game Incident

Former Islanders player Mikhail Grabovski is reportedly dealing with legal complications in Toronto connected to an incident after a minor hockey playoff game in Ontario.

This altercation took place on March 14 at the Markham Village Community Center around 10:50 p.m., after York Regional Police responded to reports of an assault.

At the time, Grabovski was serving as coach for the Markham Waxers in a U-15 playoff match.

According to reports, police apprehended a suspect who now faces a charge of assault. The victim, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to a local hospital.

Further details from court documents suggest that Grabovski is accused of assaulting Warren Cooper, the coach of the opposing team, the York Simcoe Express. What triggered this incident isn’t entirely clear.

As part of his release conditions, Grabovski is not allowed to contact Cooper. The charges are set to be officially filed on March 30, with his first court appearance scheduled for June 12 in Newmarket, Ontario.

In response to the situation, the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) condemned the behavior and stated they wouldn’t provide more comments while the police investigation is ongoing.

The league expressed that the incident does not align with their values, emphasizing their commitment to sportsmanship.

Throughout his hockey career, Grabovski played ten seasons in the NHL, totaling 534 games with 125 goals and 171 assists. The majority of his time in the league was spent with the Maple Leafs from 2008 to 2013.

He concluded his career with the Islanders, playing his final season at Nassau Coliseum in 2014-15 and spending a brief time at Barclays Center in 2015-16, contributing 18 goals and 44 points in his two seasons with the team.
