Former Officer Testifies in Trial Over Shooting Incident
A former state trooper from Massachusetts is on trial for allegedly attempting to kill a police officer who is the brother of a colleague. The former officer, Kelsey Fitzsimmons, testified that she never had any intention of harming her fellow officer and was in a crisis when police intervened.
During her testimony, Fitzsimmons stated that she was about to take her own life when officers arrived to enforce a restraining order requested by her fiancé, Justin Eilian.
Her defense attorney, Timothy Bradl, questioned her about whether she had aimed a gun at Officer Patrick Noonan. “Did you move the muzzle of the gun toward him?” he asked. Fitzsimmons firmly denied it, stating, “No, never.”
Fitzsimmons had been shot by another officer during an altercation at her home on June 25, 2025, after she reportedly attempted to fire a weapon. Subsequently, a 28-year-old woman was arrested and charged with multiple counts, including armed assault with intent to murder. While a grand jury eventually indicted her on one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, she is currently awaiting trial.
Prosecutors allege that Fitzsimmons aimed the gun at Noonan, but she contended that she only pointed it at herself in a desperate moment and had no intention of confronting the police department. “I didn’t want to get anyone involved. I wanted to take my own life,” she insisted, adding, “I never pointed a gun at a fellow police officer. That never happened.”
Fitzsimmons recounted the shock she experienced when shot. “It wasn’t normal pain; it felt like there was no pain, but my whole body felt like it was burning,” she described. Despite a severe injury that left her with a hole in her lung, she recalled being very aware of her environment. When emergency crews arrived, she repeatedly expressed her wish to die, trying to refuse help as firefighters attempted to administer oxygen.
She has pleaded not guilty to the charges related to the shooting incident. On Wednesday, prosecutors decided to drop the case against her.
