Ahman Green Reveals Parkinson’s Disease Diagnosis
Former Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green shared on Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
The franchise’s all-time leading rusher, now 49, made this announcement during an episode of the Go Long podcast. He was discussing his life after football and his commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
“Last year, I was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease,” Green stated. “I noticed my legs twitching a bit while I was asleep.”
Green mentioned that he suspected something was off well before the diagnosis. He consulted several doctors and ultimately received his final diagnosis in January 2025.
Although he has lived with this condition for about 18 months, Green kept it private for a while. “I didn’t want to share until I informed my kids and family first,” he explained, “I wanted them to know before I reached out to my friends and others.”
To manage his symptoms, Green emphasizes the importance of exercise, healthy eating, and medication.
He also noted challenges like short-term memory loss and having episodes of sleepwalking and talking. His wife even mentioned that he had been experiencing seizures in his sleep since retiring in 2009.
Despite these struggles, Green remains hopeful about his future. He advocates for awareness regarding the disease and the importance of early diagnosis.
“It’s critical to be proactive about this,” he remarked. “It should be a regular topic of conversation. It’s not the end of the world.”
Green has had an impressive football career, amassing over 1,000 rushing yards in six of his eight seasons with the Packers, including a peak of 1,883 yards in 2003. A four-time Pro Bowler, he also played for the Seahawks and Texans, wrapping up his 12-year career with 9,205 rushing yards and 60 touchdowns.
