Delta Pilot’s Ex-Girlfriend Charged in Child Sex Crime Case
A former partner of a Delta pilot is facing serious allegations involving child sexual abuse. Jennifer Powell, 45, is accused of taking part in the abuse of her daughter by Rustom Bhagwagar, a Delta pilot, when the girl was between six and eleven years old.
According to official documents, the charges suggest that Powell was aware of the abuse and even participated in it. This all came to light as investigators got involved.
Bhagwagar, 34, was arrested in a dramatic incident on Saturday as federal agents apprehended him shortly after the plane landed in San Francisco. He was taken out of the cockpit in handcuffs, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
The pilot faces a staggering 24 felony charges related to sexual activities with minors. These charges include offenses against children under ten, along with counts of oral sex, obscene conduct, and aggravated sexual assault.
Powell now faces multiple charges of her own, and if convicted, both she and Bhagwagar could each serve up to 15 years in prison.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office has been looking into these allegations since April, following various tips about child sex crimes. Delta Airlines has confirmed that Bhagwagar has been suspended during the investigation.
A spokesperson for Delta stated, “We have zero tolerance for illegal activities and will fully cooperate with law enforcement.” They also mentioned that the individual in question has been suspended pending further investigation.
Currently, both Bhagwagar and Powell are being held at the Martinez Detention Center, each facing a $15 million bond. Bhagwagar’s next court appearance is set for July 30th.
District Attorney Deanna Becton emphasized the importance of child safety, declaring, “Our office is firmly committed to protecting children and holding accountable those who cause harm. Every child deserves to feel safe, protected, and heard when such injustices occur.”
