Matt McQuillan, a former player on the PGA Tour, has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 45.

Reports indicate that McQuillan died at Kingston General Hospital in Ontario, Canada, on Wednesday. He was surrounded by family at the time. The cause of death is currently unclear.

His obituary notes his remarkable ability to unite people, whether on the golf course or in daily life. It highlighted how his encouragement, humor, and genuine friendship made him a cherished figure in the Kingston golf community and beyond.

Originally from Kingston, Ontario, McQuillan turned professional in 2003 and secured his PGA Tour card through Q School in 2010. He participated in 21 events in 2011, managing to qualify seven times, including a notable T-3 finish at the John Deere Classic, marking his best outing.

The PGA Tour shared a tribute, recalling that McQuillan continued his passion for golf by teaching in Kingston, where he aimed to nurture the next generation of Canadian golfers.

Friends remember him for his enthusiasm and positivity, noting that he celebrated others’ successes just as much as his own. His family expressed that he consistently encouraged fellow golfers, regardless of skill level.

Before his professional career, McQuillan played collegiate golf at Oklahoma State, beginning in 2000 before transferring to the University of Georgia.

Golf Canada expressed its condolences, emphasizing that Kingston remained central to McQuillan’s golf journey.
