Former Philadelphia police officer Edsaul Mendoza was found guilty Friday in the March 2022 murder of 12-year-old Thomas “TJ” Siderio.
CNN report Siderio allegedly fired shots into the vehicle of Mendoza and three other plainclothes officers on March 1, 2022, and Mendoza responded with a chase.
Siderio dropped his gun during the chase, but Mendoza shot him three times.
philadelphia inquirer report Mendoza was initially charged with first-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter, but he appealed the charges to third-degree murder.
Mendoza had been with the Philadelphia Police Department for five years when he shot and killed Siderio in 2022. The case could carry a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
