Living presidents from across the United States gathered together on Sunday to offer their condolences to the family of Jimmy Carter after the 39th commander-in-chief passed away Sunday at age 100.
Former President Barack Obama: “Every time I had the opportunity to spend time with President Carter, it was clear that he was not just professing these values.'' said in a statement. “He embodied them, and in doing so, he taught all of us what it means to live a life of grace, dignity, justice, and service.
“In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech, President Carter said, 'God has given us the ability to choose. We can choose to alleviate suffering. We can choose to work together for peace. We can,” President Obama wrote. “He made that choice over and over again over 100 years, and the world is better off because of it.”
Carter had been receiving hospice care in her hometown of Plains, Georgia, for two years prior to her death.
Among the many others paying tribute was former President George W. Bush. issued a statement regarding X.
“James Earl Carter Jr. was a man of deep faith,” the statement said. “He was loyal to his family, his community, and his country. President Carter brought dignity to the office. And his efforts to leave the world a better place did not end with his presidency.

“His work with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center set an example of service that will inspire generations of Americans,” Bush wrote. “We join our fellow citizens in thanking Jimmy Carter and praying for his family.”
Meanwhile, former President Bill Clinton also praised Carter's accomplishments. “He is guided by his faith.”

“From his commitment to civil rights as a state senator and governor of Georgia, to protecting the natural resources of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, to making energy conservation a national priority, to returning the Panama Canal to Panama as president,” Clinton said. “We will continue to work on this,” he said. “He worked tirelessly for a better and more just world,” the statement said.
