Former federal prosecutor Andy McCarthy on Wednesday shot down claims that the Biden family’s corruption scandal fell apart with the FBI’s arrest of Alexander Smirnov.
Last week’s grand jury Smirnov charged with lying To the FBI. Special Counsel David Weiss previously accused the FBI of falsely claiming that Ukrainian energy company Burisma paid $5 million each to then-Vice President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden in 2015 or 2016. They accused Mr. Smirnov of being a confidential intelligence source.
Democrats are exploiting Smirnov’s arrest pardon Mr. Biden of cheating.
But Democrats are not being honest, McCarthy said Wednesday, laying out the obvious fact that Smirnov’s allegations are not the “lynchpin” of the corruption allegations.
”[Investigators] Before we knew there was an FBI informant who said there was a $10 million bribe and had irrefutable evidence that corrupt practices were involved, Smirnov’s information about it was not disclosed by the House of Representatives. “It has nothing to do with what Republicans already knew about Burisma,” McCarthy said. on Fox News.
“I think the Democrats are trying to push the idea that he’s the key to the case, because his testimony is clearly invalidated by the false statement charge. That’s why the case is collapsing. “It looks like it did,” he continued. “But that doesn’t mean, for example, that the $24 million that went into Biden’s coffers from corrupt, anti-American government stooges will disappear.”
McCarthy also highlighted why he is “skeptical” about Weiss’ actions and, in particular, the timing of Smirnov’s indictment.
“I still think Weiss’s main job here is to protect President Biden,” McCarthy said.
“He went a long time without prosecuting Hunter, and then tried to wipe the case out with a plea deal with his girlfriend, because he only prosecuted Hunter in two cases, and he didn’t get away with it.” He pointed out. “But when he admitted the tax indictment against Mr. Hunter, he made sure to keep President Biden’s name out of it, even though Mr. Hunter’s income came from abusing his relationship with the president. I had a hard time.”
Additionally, McCarthy pointed out unusual details. in court documents Smirnov argues that There was contact with a senior Russian official..
“This whole issue of whether it’s Russian disinformation, I think this is a very strange complaint,” he said. “There’s something in the end [of the court document] According to the report, Mr. Smirnov was told that Mr. Hunter was staying at the location in Kiev where the Russians had sent the telegram. There are no charges in the indictment or complaint related to that information. They kind of threw it in at the end. ”
McCarthy said information about Russian intelligence activities is “highly sensitive” so the Justice Department typically does not include that type of information in unredacted court documents.
surely, Some people in the media are already using Russian intelligence angle claiming Hunter Biden is the victim of a Russian disinformation campaign.
