Former Rams Super Bowl winner criticizes Harrison Mevis after kicker's dismissal

The Rams have parted ways with kicker Harrison Mevis, and the reasons may now be clearer.

Mevis had a rough start to the 2026 season, completing only 5 out of 9 attempts (a 55.6% success rate). His record included just 3 of 6 attempts from 40 to 49 yards, and he missed the only attempt he made from beyond 50 yards.

In a crucial situation during Monday’s game against the Bills, he missed a field goal from 50 yards in the first quarter. Later, in overtime, his attempt was blocked, denying the Rams a possible win in Week 5. However, what raised eyebrows even more was Mevis’s behavior after the game.

Former Rams lineman Andrew Whitworth, who was part of the Super Bowl-winning team in 2021, didn’t hold back in expressing his frustration with Mevis.

Whitworth shared his thoughts on social media, remarking, “The biggest thing that irritates me… If you are in the mood to laugh with some Bills players after the game… when you see that after the game, it’s like hey man maybe it’s not a fit.”

He dug deeper into his reasoning, saying that he felt discontent watching Mevis appear unbothered after the game. “When I messed up, if I gave up a sack or whatever, I’m racing to the locker room, upset and not wanting to talk to anyone. If I missed a kick or two, I don’t get it.”

Whitworth emphasized a point about team mentality, indicating that successful teams often share a serious approach to football. He suggested that players who don’t seem to show concern might reflect a broader issue within teams that struggle. “If you’re smiling and joking with the other team after loss, I think it doesn’t align with the mentality head coaches expect.”
