Damon Dash Files for Bankruptcy Amid Financial Struggles

Damon Dash, a former partner of Jay-Z and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, is facing severe financial difficulties, with a reported debt amounting to $25.3 million. Recent court documents reveal that he has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

The 54-year-old music producer reportedly has only $4,350 in assets. Shockingly, he owes almost $19.8 million to the government and an additional $648,000 for domestic support, which includes significant amounts owed to his ex-wife, Rachel Roy.

Dash also has financial obligations to Cindy Morales, the mother of his 21-year-old son Lucky, and Linda Williams, the mother of his 33-year-old son Boogie, as detailed in filings from Thursday in Florida.

Court records indicate that Dash’s income is listed as zero dollars per month. He does not own a home or a vehicle and only possesses a $500 mobile phone.

His meager personal assets consist of two guns valued at $750, clothing and jewelry totaling around $2,500, and $100 in cash. He has mentioned in court filings that he owes a “potential but unknown” amount to his associate Kareem “Bigs” Burke.

Dash and Jay-Z were known for producing chart-topping hits like “Hard Knock Life” and “99 Problems” during the late 1990s and early 2000s, but their financial relationship has been tumultuous for a while now.

On the same day he filed for bankruptcy, Dash shared a video on Instagram detailing his health issues and the time he hopes to spend with his young son and fiancée, Raquel Horn.

He has previously addressed his financial struggles on social media, expressing a desire to see how things play out in an August 2024 video. In that post, he reflected on the risks of investing in dreams, seemingly acknowledging that such investments can lead to serious consequences.

This latest bankruptcy filing follows a court ruling earlier this year that demanded he pay $1 million owed to a creditor or face potential consequences in court. Dash has been accused of trying to evade these judgments by concealing funds and ignoring court orders.

In another lawsuit, he had been ordered to disclose his assets, stemming from a case in which filmmaker Josh Weber filed a claim against him. Allegedly, Dash attempted to settle for nearly $900,000, but his delays led to a guilty verdict in 2022.

According to a ruling in April, failure to comply could result in an arrest warrant being issued for him. A separate judge later found that Dash had destroyed critical financial documents linked to current and future litigation in another case.

New York state has even taken action, acquiring a third of Dash’s share in Roc-A-Fella Records for $1 million during an auction last November.

As of now, Dash’s lawyers and representatives have not commented on the situation.
