Mr. Daniel Berger on site According to Golf Channel's Brently Romine, next week's American Express will be the third PGA Tour event of the season.
The American Express will be Berger's first start since the 2022 U.S. Open, where he missed the cut.
Since then, Berger has been plagued by back injuries that have prevented him from playing professionally.
“That was the worst six months of my life,'' Berger said. Said to Doug Ferguson Associated Press In May 2023.
“I've lived a very easy life. I play golf for a living, so I don't have that much stress. But I also feel like if I didn't want to feel that way, I would have given up golf forever. there was.”
The former US Ryder Cup star is now 30 years old but has not played in 18 months. However, he has undergone ongoing rehabilitation and is now ready to return to his PGA Tour.
“That's the difficult part,” Berger said. Associated Press.
“I was a top-20 player when I went on vacation. I'm coming home with nothing. I get it. That's part of the game. You have to earn everything. When you come back I’m going to come back with fire in my belly and I’m going to enjoy the challenge of getting back to where I started.”
In fact, Berger was an up-and-coming star in American golf, helping Team USA dominate the Europeans at Whistling Strait.
A few months before the 2021 Ryder Cup, Berger finished tied for seventh at the U.S. Open and tied for eighth at the British Open Championship. He then qualified for the 2021 Tour Championship, finishing tied for 11th in the final FedEx Cup standings.
But the following winter, he developed back pain.
Berger thought he could get through it.
“Looking back, that was the wrong decision. I kept playing the whole time,” Berger added.
“Around Augusta, I couldn't sit down, I couldn't do normal activities, I couldn't play tennis. I need someone to look at that.”
This decision cost him 18 months in the prime of his career.
Now he's back in the Coachella Valley for the American Express, where dozens of other PGA Tour hopefuls will also be in action.
