Former Saints kicker Will Lutz suggests boos from fans during Broncos’ blowout win were not directed at him

Will Lutz returns to the New Orleans count. The one-time Pro Bowl kicker helped lead the Denver Broncos to a 33-10 victory over the Saints on Thursday night, converting all four of his field goal attempts.

But Lutz noticed the obvious boos that rained down on him from the Saints faithful during the game.

After Thursday's game, Lutz took to social media to clearly criticize former coach Dennis Allen.

“Well, I think I know who was booing me from the building.” Lutz wrotealong with a laughing emoji. “We all love you, Who Dat Nation.”

Allen, who took over as head coach after Sean Payton briefly left the coaching position, has been under intense scrutiny this season. During halftime, former Seattle Seahawks defensive back Richard Sherman questioned the effort of the Saints players and suggested he would be open to the coach being fired.

“They don't want to make tackles. They don't want to make plays. They're good players. Tyrann Mathieu is a good player. Easiest interception of his life…and he dropped it.” the shaman said Broadcasting on Prime Video.

“I see the players not making the effort to get close to the ball carrier or make the tackle. This doesn't make sense to me. It's like they want to fire the coach. That's what they're trying to do.”

After the game, Allen dismissed obvious concerns about his job security.

After convincingly winning their first two games of the season, the Saints dropped five games in a row. The once-proud fanbase is likely dissatisfied after the disappointing past few weeks. The loss also resulted in a large number of players being ejected from the Caesars Superdome in the fourth quarter.

The message referenced the string of success quarterback Drew Brees has had with the team. The five-time All-Pro retired after the 2020 season, and the Saints have not qualified for the postseason since.

Brees was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame at halftime of Thursday's game.

Lutz signed with New Orleans in 2016 and remained with the team through the 2022 season. In 2023, he was traded to the Broncos and reunited with Payton.

The Saints head to California next week to take on the Los Angeles Chargers.
