Vernon Davis, a former football player, is facing allegations of throwing books and magazines at his pregnant ex-girlfriend during a dispute over her pregnancy last year, according to new reports.
The argument occurred on May 31 at Davis’s home, where they were discussing her pregnancy and related issues. Things escalated quickly, leading to a volatile confrontation, as indicated by information obtained.
The woman claimed that the 41-year-old Davis was physically aggressive, reportedly throwing magazines and books at her. At one point, he allegedly offered her $10,000, according to news outlets.
The altercation reportedly ceased only when the woman recorded the incident on her cellphone, capturing the tense situation.
In the days following the incident, Davis supposedly accused her of being untruthful and had an aggressive response when she cautioned him not to ask questions.
During a recorded conversation that night, Davis is said to have denied any wrongdoing, adding, “If I really slapped you, you’d be blue in the face.”
The reports do not delve into the details of their discussion concerning abortion rights.
A warrant for Davis’s arrest was issued for assault and battery on January 8, coinciding with the filing of the complaint. His trial is scheduled for February.
The woman also mentioned a history of domestic violence, noting she had visible bruises from a previous confrontation. Additionally, there are claims of a previous incident involving strangulation linked to an argument that occurred just days before the May 31 incident, prior to her realizing she was pregnant.
A source close to Davis has stated that he takes the allegations seriously.
Davis’s attorney has not yet commented on the matter. Over the course of his career, he played for teams including San Francisco, Denver, and Washington, winning Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos. He officially retired from the NFL in 2020.
