Tezlyn Figaro, a former campaign advisor for Bernie Sanders, called out Democrats for not adapting messaging beyond white liberals.
Since the Democratic Party’s historic loss to President Donald Trump in November, the party has struggled to find a new message or leader to come together. While Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Dn.Y., and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) spoke at rallies around the country, Figaro argued that messaging strategies need to be changed, particularly with regard to Sanders’ “Fighting Oligarchy” tour.
“The Bernie Sanders demographic, and, to be honest, the progressive demographic, the Rainbow Coalition, is white liberals, almost white progressive.” Podcast. “I have not yet spoken to people who have been completely given up and completely disenfranchised.”

Sanders was recently performing at the Coachella Music Festival, a festival where tickets for hundreds of dollars spent, as Figaro observed.
“He’s talking to a white movement that’s very progressive for me,” said Sanders’ former advisor. “Even if you’re Hispanic, it’s still white and adjacent.”
“He’s struggling when dealing with race. I’m saying this as his formal racial justice director,” Figaro added.
She also argued that Mega-Wealthy is simply not the best for many people.
“No one is mad at the rich, Shahlamanyu,” she said. “Like, people are really trying to get their bags.”
Charlemagne argued that Sanders was a better ship, considering everything because of this message than many Democrats.

“I think the ‘Fighting Olgarky’ tour is a good message,” Charlamane said, “It’s not a hypocritical message from Bernie Sanders or the AOC, but for the majority of Democrats it’s a hypocritical message as they receive money from billionaires and corporate lobbyists.”
Figaro argued that such a message is deaf due to the various constituencies.
“Well, who doesn’t know the food [oligarchy] That’s right,” she replied, pronounced the words incorrectly.
“I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I mean, they’re not. You know when people are talking about ‘neoliberalism’. “So there are different messages that people need to get involved.”

She also argued that Democrats were simply “too big.”
“It’s too big. It needs to be broken. Nobody is going to be involved with Bernie Sanders. Nobody is going to be involved with AOC. Nobody is going to be involved with Jasmine Crockett. Nobody is going to be involved with me.”
