A former teacher from Downers Grove, Illinois, faces serious charges for repeatedly abusing a 15-year-old student. She allegedly attempted to convince a judge to allow her to contact the victim.
The individual in question is 30-year-old Christina Formela. She was formerly a special education teacher at Downers Grove South High School.
Reports indicate that she has been accused of abusing the same victim over 50 times.
During her court appearance on Wednesday, Formela was accompanied by her husband. It’s been noted that she has been living with her parents in a home valued at $560,000 on a golf course since the charges were elevated in mid-June, which included the imposition of an ankle monitor.
According to her lawyer, their home is located within a restrictive buffer zone of 5,000 feet, limiting her contact with the victim. On that day, Formela requested a reduction of the buffer zone to 2,500 feet, explaining that the boy often socializes and works near her home. The judge denied this request.
In June, authorities added 52 new charges against her for criminal sexual abuse and escalating criminal sexual assault.
Sources have revealed that Formela kept a written record on her phone regarding her relationship with the victim. Notably, she was also featured in the school’s yearbook for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Prosecutors have indicated that Formela informed the young victim about plans to leave her husband and seize millions of dollars from his family.
In a video segment, a reporter questioned her husband about his ongoing support for Formela as they walked together, holding hands. Despite the inquiry, no response was provided.
He previously told investigators that he was blind to the allegations against his wife, stating that he does not suspect any wrongdoing in Formela’s interactions with the boy.
At the time of the incidents, the victim was 14 years old and part of the soccer team, and she is accused of grooming him. Reports suggest that after he got injured, she began to give him personal coaching.
