BJ Penn Arrested Again in Hawaii
Former UFC champion BJ Penn was taken into custody in Hawaii on Tuesday, marking his fifth arrest this year after breaching a court-issued restraining order.
Penn’s mother, Lorraine Singh, successfully secured a one-year protection order in August, following her earlier request for a temporary restraining order against him.
At 46, the ex-lightweight and welterweight champion has made some rather startling claims—he alleges, for instance, that a con artist has taken his family’s place.
According to a statement from Hawaii Island Police, “46-year-old Jay Dee ‘BJ’ Penn was arrested and charged for violating a court order for protection.” They detailed the incident saying, on September 15, at around 4:03 PM, officers responded to reports of violations on Pueo Street. Upon assessing the situation, they confirmed that Penn had, indeed, breached the protective order. His bail was set at $2,000, which he subsequently posted.
Penn’s earlier run-ins with the law included arrests on May 25 and 26, followed by further arrests on May 30 and June 12.
This all stems from an incident in which Singh sought a restraining order after an argument with Penn at home led to allegations of abuse.
Singh has also mentioned her belief that her son may be suffering from Capgras syndrome, a rare psychological condition that can cause individuals to believe their loved ones have been replaced by impostors.
Penn’s mental health is being evaluated, with upcoming examinations slated for late October to early November. It’s important to note that he hasn’t fought in the UFC since 2019.
