Former Vikings captain criticizes Minneapolis progressives during unrest over Pretti shooting

Former Minnesota Vikings captain and University of Minnesota football player Jack Brewer has voiced his concerns regarding anti-ICE activists in the state. Following a shooting incident in Minneapolis, where a Border Patrol agent killed one of the protesters, Brewer accused the state’s liberal leaders of fueling the chaos. He suggested that Democrats oppose ICE because it is “deporting voters.”

“We’re deporting their voters. That’s part of what’s going on, and it’s undermining their whole plan,” Brewer shared in a conversation with FOX News Digital. He criticized the values of some individuals in Minneapolis, asserting that the city is sheltering disruptive elements. “I’ve worked in third-world countries for 25 years, and the values are not the same,” he remarked, suggesting that those coming from different cultures are bringing their influences along.

Brewer, expressing his frustration, called for behavioral evaluations and the National Guard’s intervention in Minneapolis. “There’s something wrong with Minneapolis. We need a citywide health behavioral assessment,” he said. He went on to express hope that President Trump would deploy the National Guard and implement a curfew to ensure law enforcement could perform their duties safely.

Interestingly, Brewer has a past connection with Minneapolis; in 2018, he was awarded the Key to the City by Mayor Jacob Frey. However, he is now critical of Frey, accusing him of leaning too far left. “What he did was absolutely ridiculous,” Brewer stated, implying that the mayor shows undue favor to certain communities, which he believes contradicts American and Christian values.

The incident that sparked the unrest involved 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an ICU nurse who was shot during an immigration operation targeting undocumented immigrant Jose Huerta Chuma. According to officials, Pretti approached agents with a firearm and resisted disarmament, leading to his death.

Following the shooting, approximately 200 protesters gathered, obstructing law enforcement efforts. In the aftermath, Minneapolis police asked residents to remain calm, confirming reports of ongoing disturbances in the area.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara noted that an “unlawful assembly” had occurred and urged avoidance of large gatherings. He emphasized the need for federal agencies to operate with discipline and integrity while calling for peaceful responses from the public.

The situation was further complicated as local police collaborated with state patrols and sheriff’s offices to address escalating 911 calls. They were also working together to manage small fires reported in the area.

Tensions surrounding federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota have been high, especially following a previous incident in January that resulted in a fatality and ignited nationwide protests questioning immigration policies under the Trump administration.
