Former Yankee Clint Frazier criticizes the team for having too many experts in charge

Clint Frazier’s Frustration with Yankees’ Analytics Approach

Clint Frazier’s time with the Yankees didn’t exactly go as planned, and he seems to have some unresolved issues with how the organization prioritizes analytics. The player, who has struggled to find his footing as a premier prospect, expressed his concerns during an appearance on Thursday’s “Foul Territory.”

“It feels like they’ve brought in too many rocket scientists to handle the lineup,” he stated, suggesting a preference for former players or seasoned individuals in those roles instead. This comment hints at a broader frustration with the Yankees’ analytics-focused approach.

Frazier recounted a conversation with former Yankee Eric Kratz, where Kratz’s friend affirmed that “players get hot.” Frazier remarked, “I can hit 55-55, and they’ll say, ‘He’s not hot yet.’ But they believe it’s true.” He noted it felt like the organization’s decisions were not based on observation or intuition, stressing that sometimes you just have to go with your gut.

Since joining the Yankees in 2016 from Cleveland as part of the Andrew Miller trade, Frazier has had a complicated journey. The franchise recently eased its hair regulations, which, while a minor change, underscores Frazier’s long-standing tension with the Yankees.

Looking back, Frazier reflected on how he saw himself as an integral part of the team, trying to innovate and push boundaries. “I was very offensive in my thoughts,” he said, adding that it felt personal to him. Yet, after five seasons with the Yankees, Frazier has struggled with injuries, including multiple concussions in 2021, leading to stints with the Cubs and Rangers, and ultimately, his last MLB appearance in 2023.

In terms of performance, Frazier’s MLB career statistics saw him finish with a .235 batting average, 29 home runs, and 101 RBIs across seven seasons.

Recently, Frazier officially retired after playing with the Charleston Dirty Birds in the Atlantic League last season.
