This year’s Padres roster includes four pitchers who sent Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to the Yankees and have since traded to the White Sox: Brito, Michael King, Randy Vazquez, and promising pitcher Drew Thorpe. Following the blockbuster trade that released five players, including the Yankees, the Yankees have a great deal of influence. Along with catcher Kyle Higashioka.

San Diego also signed southpaw Peralta to a four-year contract in free agency.

Adding a former Yankees reliever is a solid strategy as the team has had great success producing valuable weapons, but Peralta and Brito did not pass their initial auditions on Wednesday.

Peralta got through the seventh inning scoreless with a 2-1 lead, but the eighth inning began with a walk to Max Muncy, making it 3-2.

Brito, who had a good record of 9 wins and 7 losses and a 4.28 ERA last year, was in trouble after allowing a single to Teoscar Hernandez and a walk to James Outman.

The right-hander induced Enrique Hernandez’s sacrifice fly to tie the game and end the day, but Padres left-hander Adrian Morejon allowed both runners he inherited to score because of a bad stoppage.
