Formula E’s Exciting Announcement Ahead of Season Finale
The Formula E season for 2025-2026 wraps up this weekend with the final races at the London E-Prix.
In a significant development just ahead of this finale, the all-electric racing series made a noteworthy announcement on Tuesday.
They revealed plans for a new streaming partnership for the 2026-2027 season, with the series shifting to Disney+. In the U.S., fans can also catch it on ESPN+ starting next season.
Formula E CEO Geoff Dodds remarked that this is a pivotal moment for the series, showcasing its growing momentum. He mentioned, “Disney’s unmatched global reach and storytelling will expose Formula E to millions of new fans, making the thrill and innovation of electric racing more accessible. As we approach the GEN4 era, this collaboration sets the stage for our global expansion and solidifies our status as one of the most exciting sports.” He added that they are looking forward to innovative projects with Disney beyond just live racing.
Next season will kick off the new GEN4 era, which will bring in advanced vehicles, new venues, and a fresh format for the races. These GEN4 cars are capable of delivering 600 kilowatts of power, equating to over 815 horsepower and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in roughly 1.8 seconds.
This summer, the series also laid out its 2026-2027 schedule, which features a new U.S. race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. A highlight will be the introduction of an ‘E-Prix Unleashed’ format, offering shorter races over eight double-header weekends throughout the upcoming season. These “performance-oriented sprint” races, lasting about 30 minutes, will allow drivers to engage in intense competition at full power, as described by Dodds during a media roundtable.
Returning to the news about the Disney+ partnership, Formula E Chief Media Officer Michaela Snoch emphasized that this collaboration is aimed at bringing fans closer to the action than ever before. According to Snoch, “This agreement is a response to the global demand for Formula E. Disney’s vast scale enhances our existing television broadcasts, enabling us to reach our core markets while accelerating our digital growth and enhancing fan engagement.”
