Forrest Frank Withdraws from Music Awards Over Personal Beliefs
Christian artist Forrest Frank announced he won’t be participating in music awards ceremonies, including the upcoming GMA Dove Awards, due to his personal convictions about seeking public recognition.
In a social media video posted ahead of the 56th Annual GMA Dove Awards in Nashville, Frank explained his absence despite being nominated for several awards this year. He expressed a deep conflict between his faith and the desire for fame in the music industry.
Having won two Dove Awards in 2024 and been nominated for a Grammy for his album “Child of God,” Frank shared his struggles with the idea of being a Christian musician. He reflected on how, at times, his appearance and music align with worldly standards, prompting him to question where he should draw the line.
“As a Christian artist, I dress like the world. I am like the world,” he said in his video. “So where is the line in the sand? I believe I draw the line at not accepting trophies that are from and for Jesus.”
This internal conflict first troubled him last year during the Dove Awards, but he felt compelled to take a firmer stance this year. “I don’t know if I want to be on stage,” he admitted, sharing his decision to stay away from both the Dove Awards and the Grammys.
He hopes his decision resonates with young fans, encouraging them to pursue eternal acknowledgment rather than temporary accolades.
Frank contended that the ultimate trophy is having his name in the Book of Life, rather than something material. He mentioned, “What good is a piece of metal compared to that?” In a follow-up note, he assured viewers that his choice wasn’t about evading the spotlight but about maintaining a principled foundation.
This announcement prompted varied reactions within the Christian music community. While some, like gospel singer CeCe Winans, praised his commitment, others indicated that his stance might overlook the positive influence of recognition. Singer Jonathan Traylor suggested it’s possible to accept awards humbly, emphasizing that even awards can serve as means of praise rather than sources of pride.
Despite facing criticism, Frank’s position received encouragement from artists and fans alike, with many applauding his dedication to his faith.
The Dove Awards took place on October 7th, with a broadcast on TBN and SiriusXM. Following this latest controversy, Frank also disclosed last month that he lost a significant number of followers after expressing his thoughts on the death of political figure Charlie Kirk. In a heartfelt message, he stressed the importance of following Jesus over popularity.
Frank’s decision to focus on genuine, faith-driven content, regardless of its impact on his follower count, seems to be a defining moment in his career.
