Forrest Frank Provokes Discussion in CCM by Choosing Not to Attend Dove Awards

Forrest Frank recently announced that he won’t be attending award ceremonies, igniting a debate within the Christian music scene. Some fans are supportive of his decision, while others express disagreement.

This week, Frank shared on Instagram his choice to skip events like the GMA Dove Awards and the Grammy Awards, stating plainly, “I don’t want to accept any trophies. Jesus and for Jesus too.” He wishes to set an example for younger followers, emphasizing that trophies aren’t the path to salvation. “What good is a piece of metal compared to that?” he added in a video.

His announcement came just before the 2025 Dove Awards, where he was nominated for seven awards, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. The event is set to air on TBN on October 10th at 7:30 PM and 10:30 PM ET.

Frank explained that he posted the video in response to inquiries about his upcoming plans. “This is not about refusing to be a light in a dark place… it’s about rejecting the notion of winning an award,” he clarified. “I already have the greatest award of all time. I hope you all understand; I love you all.”

He was recognized as New Artist of the Year at the 2024 Dove Awards.

Notable Christian artist CeCe Winans encouraged Frank on social media, saying, “Stick to your beliefs!” while We Are Messengers stated, “God has you in good hands. It’s commendable to see you standing by your beliefs.”

On the flip side, some artists voiced their concerns about Frank’s viewpoint, suggesting it lacks depth. Jonathan Traylor mentioned the importance of celebrating earthly accomplishments while suggesting that if the focus is to glorify God, even awards can be viewed positively.

Halvey, a Christian hip-hop artist, shared his perspective, stating that he values the Dove Awards as a means to glorify Christ. He acknowledged respect for Frank’s decision but suggested it could be helpful to clarify his reasons for not participating.

Rhett Walker expressed that if Frank doesn’t wish to be recognized, he should refrain from submitting his music for consideration at these awards. “If you don’t want that, please don’t submit your own music to polls,” he advised.

In a follow-up video, Frank reflected on his ongoing struggle with the concept of the Dove Awards, stating that it’s tough for Christians to balance being in the world without getting overly attached to it. “I’ve dressed like the rest of the world,” he shared, expressing conviction over not accepting trophies intended for praising Jesus. “I don’t attend the Dove Awards or the Grammy Awards,” he concluded.
