A suspected drunk driver is in police custody on suspicion of hitting two pedestrians after fleeing a traffic stop in Fort Worth Saturday night.

Andrew Michael Guerra, 29, is accused of hitting another vehicle and two pedestrians while trying to flee from police.

Fort Worth police said they first spotted a gray pickup truck with no headlights driving the wrong way on a one-way street just after 10 p.m.

The truck then backed up, nearly hitting a marked police unit and ended up on a curb, troopers said. Officers heard a passenger telling the driver to stop.

Officers attempted a traffic stop based on the suspect’s erratic driving, but the driver took off and sped through the parking lot. At this point, officers were concerned that the driver may have been intoxicated by driving recklessly and posed a danger to the public in the busy downtown area.

Officers saw the truck hit several curbs and nearly collide with other vehicles, and at one point the truck cut into oncoming traffic, ran over the curb and into a bank parking lot, striking a pole. The vehicle collided with the vehicle, destroying its left front wheel.

Officers said the driver continued to flee from officers at a high rate of speed, heading back toward the populated area, even though the vehicle was nearly in disrepair. The car then collided with a telephone pole, then a parked car, and struck two pedestrians, an adult male and an adult female, who were on the other side of the intersection.

Police say that the passenger in Guerra’s truck was cooperative with the investigation and tried to get out of the truck during the chase, but Guerra wouldn’t let him, so he was charged with unlawful restraint. He said that he was a person.

Police said the man and woman who were struck at the intersection were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
