Horrific Discovery of Infants’ Remains in Armstrong County
A property owner reached out to the police after uncovering a disturbing situation in a recently vacated home in Cadogan Township, Pennsylvania. The state police reported receiving a call on Saturday about the discovery of a deceased infant by individuals tasked with cleaning the property.
Upon entering, the owner found a garbage bag in a foul-smelling closet. The coroner confirmed the remains of an infant were inside that bag. It was during a subsequent investigation that police located two additional bodies in the attic, both of which were also confirmed to be infants.
During questioning, Jessica Maute, a 39-year-old woman, allegedly confessed that she had given birth three times and had wrapped each newborn in a towel before placing them in bags to conceal their deaths. She recounted her first experience, stating she gave birth while sitting on the toilet. She claimed that the infant fell into the water and made a sound, prompting her to wrap it in a towel until quiet, then place it in the closet.
Elizabeth Germai, who assisted in cleaning the property, described the scene as chaotic, mentioning it was hard to traverse the cluttered home. She expressed distress regarding the situation, particularly for the two surviving children: “I’m very sick of it. I’m very sad for the two remaining children. There are no words,” she stated.
Reports indicate that another deceased infant may have been discovered, but no details have been released regarding that case.
A neighbor, Carmen Felix, expressed shock about the situation, remarking, “It’s just evil. It’s beyond illness. How could she do that, three times? You don’t just throw the baby in the bathroom.”
Another unidentified neighbor noted that her family often cared for Maute’s two boys, suggesting that the support available to her was limited, but she believed Maute loved her children. “I feel she did her best for them,” she added.
As the investigation continues, Maute faces one count of homicide, with potential for additional charges expected as authorities await autopsy results.
