Four Georgia men arrested for stealing cooking oil in bulk: Police

Four men were arrested in Cartersville, Georgia, after allegedly stealing large quantities of cooking oil from multiple businesses, police said.

According to Cartersville Police, four suspects, Carlos Laguna, 41, of Buford, Freddy Valencia Aguirre, 36, of Tucker, Luis Gaitan Obando, 41, of DeKalb County, and Yuniel Elius Aguirre Polanco, 24, of Atlanta, are suspected of stealing large quantities of cooking oil from multiple restaurants in Cartersville.

Police say this comes after a six-month investigation.

Police said the suspects may also be connected to similar thefts reported in metro Atlanta.

Police say the four are also believed to have ties to a Gwinnett County crime syndicate.

Laguna was charged with theft, taking and possessing tools to commit a crime and was held on $3,000 bail.

Aguirre has been charged with two counts of theft and two counts of possession of tools for the commission of a crime. Bail is set at $6,000.

Gaitan Obando was charged with theft, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and attempted misdemeanor battery. He is being held in the Bartow County Jail on $4,500 bail.

Aguirre-Polanco has been charged with misdemeanor attempted larceny and theft and is being held on $3,000 bail.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is assisting in the investigation.
