Missing 4-Year-Old Found Deceased in Alabama
A 4-year-old boy, who disappeared while visiting family in Florida for New Year’s, has been found dead in Alabama.
Known as “John John” to his family, Jonathan Everett Boley went missing on New Year’s Eve. He was playing outside with his dog at his father’s rural home near Jasper, Alabama, when he wandered away, according to Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith during a news conference.
In response to the situation, hundreds of law enforcement officers, community volunteers, K-9 units, and even drones were mobilized to search a vast area of wooded land.
Authorities located the boy’s body on January 2, about two miles from the family home. His dog was discovered alive in the vicinity. The exact cause of death has not been released as it awaits a formal autopsy.
Sheriff Smith expressed sympathy, stating, “This is not the outcome that anyone was hoping for. Our hearts go out to this family and everyone who worked tirelessly to bring this child home.”
According to officials, Jonathan and his brother lived in Florida with their mother and were visiting their father due to a custody arrangement. At the time of his disappearance, Jonathan was reportedly wearing a yellow Mickey Mouse shirt, black pants, and Paw Patrol shoes.
During the search for the child, investigators arrested his father, Jameson Kyle Boley, 40. He faces charges of illegally manufacturing a destructive device after authorities found precursor materials at the property. However, police emphasized that these charges are unrelated to the boy’s disappearance and death.
Smith remarked, “At this time there is no evidence of foul play in the child’s death, and these charges should not be confused with the search for Jonathan.”
The situation has left the community in mourning. In Parrish, Florida, local residents gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor the boy. Rev. Douglas Scharf, Bishop of the Diocese of Southwest Florida, mentioned that his heart is “broken by this tragic loss for so many of us.”
Officials are urging the public to respect the grieving family’s privacy and have indicated that more information will be provided as it becomes available.
