Fox News anchor Bret Baier questioned White House national security communications adviser John Kirby about President Biden’s ability to ‘Genuine concerns’ He is recognized both at home and abroad for his ability to do the job.
Kirby joined Baier on Tuesday night after the president spoke at the NATO summit in Washington, DC.
As doubts about Biden’s ability to lead the country continue into the second week, Kirby sought to calm panic by stressing the president is fully competent.
“You know, the last couple of elections, we’ve had calls at 3 a.m. Now I’m really concerned about whether I can handle not getting up between 10 and 4 p.m.,” Baier said. report Biden said people need to limit work hours to get more sleep.
Kirby said Biden gets calls in the middle of the night “all the time.”
The adviser, who said he works closely with the president, said, “The commander in chief that I know is different than what people saw on the debate stage.”
“He’s got keen insight. He asked me a question yesterday about Europe that I couldn’t answer. I had to do my homework and go back to him and answer it,” Kirby said of his boss.
As Biden meets with allied leaders this week, Kirby stressed that as a decades-long politician, he has the relationships and background to help the U.S. at the international level in ways that former President Trump did not.
“He takes his job as commander in chief seriously, he knows the situation, he has good relationships. He’s someone I know. He’s the president I work for,” Kirby said.
Baier pressed Kirby, pointing out a “disconnect” between the Biden we see on the debate stage and in a recent ABC interview and the Biden his team portrays behind closed doors.
“All I can say is, I’ve known this guy for two and a half years, but I never knew the president before he worked in the White House and I’ve never actually met him,” Kirby said. “And this is a guy that I see every day, including today, and he knows the facts and he knows the circumstances.”
