Mike Tomlin’s Potential Move to Television
Could Mike Tomlin soon make an appearance on TV? Just hours before stepping down as the Steelers’ head coach, reports emerged about networks expressing interest in him. According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, Fox appears to be the frontrunner for securing a media role for Tomlin.
If Tomlin chooses to move away from coaching and share his insights on screen, various networks, including ESPN, NBC, CBS, and Amazon Prime Video, seem eager to extend offers, potentially worth millions, Marchand noted. Fox, in particular, has shown keen interest.
Tomlin’s engaging personality is thought to be an excellent match for Fox’s NFL studio show, “Fox NFL Sunday,” which features well-known figures like Michael Strahan, Rob Gronkowski, Howie Long, and Terry Bradshaw. The position left vacant after Jimmie Johnson’s retirement remains open, although Gronkowski has stepped into a full-time role.
Insiders like Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport have suggested that Tomlin might be a strong candidate for TV following his impressive 19 seasons coaching the Pittsburgh franchise.
This decision comes right after the team suffered a first-round playoff loss to the Texans at home on Monday night, which extended the Steelers’ winless playoff streak to nine years.
In his time as the league’s longest-serving manager, Tomlin has maintained an impressive record, winning the Super Bowl in the 2008 season. Steelers President Art Rooney II confirmed Tomlin’s resignation, expressing gratitude for his dedication and contributions over nearly two decades.
After Monday’s game, Tomlin was rather non-committal about what lay ahead for him. “Honestly, I’m not thinking about it that way right now,” he stated, focusing instead on the game and the team’s performance.
