Fox News’ Bret Baier claims Harris campaign tried to steal time from interview

Fox News “Special Report” host Bret Baier claimed Wednesday that Kamala Harris' campaign cut back on scheduled time with her right before a much-anticipated interview, causing the vice president to show up late.

Baier, a veteran political journalist, likened the Harris campaign's tactics to a football team “icing the kicker” before a crucial field goal attempt.

“So, we were supposed to start at 5 p.m., which was the time they originally gave us. We'll do about 25 or 30 minutes,” the host explained.

“They came in and said, 'Well, maybe 20 people.' [minutes]. So it was already shrinking,” Baier added.

“And the vice president showed up around 5:15.” [p.m.]”

The “Special Report” host noted that Harris' late arrival made it difficult for the production team to air the interview when the show began at 6 p.m.

“We were pushing the envelope,” Baier said.

“So that's how it started. And when we started talking, I could tell she was going to be tough on me to change direction without trying to get in the way,” he continued. We get a word in edgewise during an interview where the Democratic candidate mentioned an effort to “filibuster” and not allow him to do so.

In her post-interview analysis, Baier said she wanted to ask more questions, but it was also clear that several Harris campaign staff members frantically signaled off camera to end the interview because time was running out. I made it.

“Four people are waving their hands and saying, 'No more,'” he said. “I had to get off there at the end.”

Baier said he believed Harris went into the interview with the “goal” of making her points, regardless of the question.

“Usually I can do something that takes my breath away,” Baier said, referring to efforts to get Harris to answer questions directly.

“There are occasional filibusters and attempts to create a moment,” he added. “And I think that was their goal.”

Harris, 59, dodged some of the Fox News host's questions during the sit-in, including questions about immigration, border security and President Biden's mental decline.

The newspaper has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.
