FOX News is disputing former President Trump's claims that “FOX officials” helped write a joke he told at a Catholic charity dinner this week.
“Your story was really interesting, who wrote it?” “Fox & Friends” host Steve Doocy asked Trump during the former president's speech. Program studio visit Friday.
President Trump responded to Al Smith's joke at the dinner party by saying, “A lot of people helped me.'' “Some people at Fox, I really shouldn't say that, but they were writing jokes. For the most part, I didn't like any of them.”
“We can confirm that no employees or freelancers wrote the jokes,” the station said in a statement to The Hill Friday afternoon.
A person familiar with the matter told The Hill that Trump received the joke from comedian Nick DiPaolo, a vendor who provides jokes on the network's late-night comedy show “Gutfeld!”
President Trump used his appearance at the Al Smith Dinner, traditionally attended by both presidential candidates, to attack the Democratic Party and Vice President Harris, who did not attend but appeared by video.
“By tradition, tonight I'm supposed to tell some self-deprecating jokes,” Trump said during his speech. “Then that's it. No. I have nothing. I have nothing. I have nothing to say.”
