Fox News anchor Shannon Bream told viewers on Sunday that despite her team’s “around the clock” efforts, she had been unable to find any Biden supporters to defend the president on her show.
The “Fox News Sunday” host said her team reached out to “dozens of lawmakers, Biden supporters and allies” in the days leading up to the show, seeking Democrats who would defend President Joe Biden’s decision to endorse her.
Following a disastrous debate performance that saw politicians, policymakers and media across the political spectrum calling for the incumbent candidate to drop out of the race, Biden vowed to continue campaigning in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, in posts on X and in speeches at rallies.
“We’ve had numerous interactions with the Biden-Harris campaign and not a single guest has been able or willing to come on the Today show and defend his decision to remain the president and the candidate for president,” Bream said. “So we’re going to have that conversation without that voice, and we’ve tried to avoid that.”
Bream then welcomed former Ohio Democratic congressman Tim Ryan, who has been a vocal advocate for Biden to drop out of the presidential race and allow Vice President Kamala Harris to run in his place.
“I think Kamala Harris, in particular, is going to come in and help us heal,” Ryan said on “Fox News Sunday.” “They don’t like Trump. They don’t like Biden. Let’s give them a candidate that they can unite around.”
Biden defenders did not appear on Bream’s show, but Democrats spoke out in defense of the president on other Sunday news shows.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, the 82-year-old liberal who lost the 2020 presidential election, downplayed Biden’s age on CBS’ “Face the Nation” and said voters should focus on Biden’s policies.

Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff called Biden an “extraordinary president” but declined to offer his own opinion on whether the incumbent should drop out of the race.
Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Biden is one of the most “effective” presidents he has ever worked for.
