Fox News pitches second debate to Donald Trump and Kamala Harris

FOX News is proposing to hold a second debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania later this month.

The conservative cable news giant issued an invitation to both sides Wednesday, pointing to Oct. 24 and Oct. 27 as possible final arguments.

“With a month left until the final vote, Fox News Media would like to make one last pitch for the debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump,” company president Jay Wallace said in a letter. I'm thinking about it.''

Trump, 78, has repeatedly ruled out another showdown with Harris, 59, but the network appears hopeful it can change Trump's mind.

Fox News suggested rules similar to those for CNN and ABC News debates, including having star political anchors Bret Bayer and Martha McCollum moderate the debates and muting their microphones.

NBC News had previously agreed to host a presidential showdown between the two candidates, but the proposed date was September.

Shortly after her confrontation with Trump at the ABC News-hosted National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Harris called for a second round with Trump.

“When a professional boxer loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, 'I want a rematch,'” Trump scolded on Truth Social last month. “There will be no third debate!”

Before the showdown in Philadelphia, Trump provoked Harris by accepting two more debate offers, even though Harris only agreed to one at the time. Now she's the one trying to steer him into another argument.

After the showdown between Trump and Harris last month, vice presidential candidates J.D. Vance and Tim Walz faced off last Tuesday in the final scheduled verbal sparring match between the two sides at CBS Broadcast Center.

Mr. Harris is also expected to be absent from this year's 79th Annual White Tie Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Banquet.

Historically, the Catholic Feast of Charities has been an occasion for two competing presidential candidates to appear together in a somewhat friendly atmosphere. President Trump announced plans to attend the gala dinner on October 17th.

In its final pitch to both camps, Fox News emphasized viewership numbers and cited a recent New York Times op-ed in which editor-in-chief David Swerdrick called for Harris to take on Trump on the conservative network. Quoted.

“She hasn't given her closing argument yet, and the best way for her to do that is to participate in another debate. To convince Donald Trump to join her, she should offer to put the debate on FOX News.” The work claimed.

“Harris doesn't need to throw Trump to the proverbial mat,” the article added. “Additionally, there is a small portion of voters who would probably applaud her for joining an unfriendly network.”

The newspaper has contacted both sides for comment. Voting has already begun in many states across the United States.
