Kamala Harris Protégé gives leftist party response to Trump

Left party tapped Democratic California Rep. Leytefa Simon, a longtime friend and mentee to former Vice President Kamala Harris, brought a response to President Donald Trump's speech to Congress on Tuesday.

“I am honored to speak on behalf of the Workers' Family Party,” Simon said in a statement last week. “We need a government that runs for workers, not billionaires. That's what WFP is fighting for. Looking at what's going on in our country, it's essential that we as members of Congress show up for our community and remind people that it has to be this way.”

The Workers' Family Party, a small leftist party, featured MPs Ayana Presley, former Jamal Bowman and Rashida Tribe in order to provide a response to the president's joint speech to Congress the previous year.
