Francisco Lindor back in Mets lineup as weather threatens Braves game

ATLANTA — Francisco Lindor is expected to return to the Mets starting lineup on Wednesday, if the teams actually play games.

Lindor was scheduled to start against the Braves as the shortstop and leadoff hitter because rain was forecasted to fall all day ahead of Hurricane Helen.

The Mets shortstop has missed the past eight games with a sore back.

Lindor was available off the bench in Tuesday's 5-1 loss at Truist Park.

He moved to the on-deck circle for the ninth inning, but the game was over before he could step up to bat.

Lindor underwent a bone scan earlier this week which reassured him there was no structural damage to his back, but neither the player nor the team have released the diagnosis.

Lindor last appeared in a game on Sept. 15 at Philadelphia, leaving the game after pitching 1 1/2 innings.

Two days earlier, he had hurt his back after overrunning second base on a double instead of sliding into the base.
