Francisco Lindor connects with Juan Soto's challenges in his first year with the Mets

Comparisons Between Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor’s First Seasons with the Mets

Juan Soto’s experience in his inaugural season with the Mets isn’t entirely unprecedented. Take Francisco Lindor, for example; he didn’t exactly hit the ground running in 2021.

Lindor had an extensive career before joining the Mets, spending six seasons with the Indians and earning four All-Star selections. However, his first year in New York was far from stellar. Following a massive $341 million contract, he posted career lows with a .230/.322/.412 stat line.

Soto’s performance this season—sitting at .247/.388/.455—isn’t quite as dismal as Lindor’s rookie year with the Mets. Still, it represents a noticeable drop from Soto’s standout year with the Yankees in 2024.

Reflecting on his own challenges, Lindor shared that his first season was filled with difficulty. He mentioned, “I was trying to hold it all together, but there were so many adjustments to make—understanding team culture, facing ups and downs.” He acknowledged that support from the Cohen family played a crucial role in easing his transition, encouraging him to embrace his own style.

Lindor also highlighted his time on the injured list as a surprising blessing. “Being sidelined forced me to slow down and reevaluate things,” he explained. It allowed him to gain perspective that helped him on the field.

Fans are hoping Soto doesn’t have to face similar hardships to thrive in his $765 million contract. Nevertheless, having a teammate who’s been through the grind may offer him some reassurance.

Lindor views Soto’s trajectory positively. “Some fans might think he’s struggling, but honestly, the numbers are solid and expected. He’s staying focused, not letting highs and lows dictate his performance.” He believes Soto has the potential to become an All-Star and anticipates a breakout year ahead for him.
