Francisco Lindor of the Mets is getting nearer to coming back from his calf strain injury

Francisco Lindor’s Anticipated Return

Among the numerous injured players on the Mets’ roster, Francisco Lindor stands out as perhaps the most crucial. The shortstop has been sidelined since late April due to a strained left calf, but reports indicate he may be back by the end of this month.

When asked about his return timeline, Lindor mentioned there’s no set date. “My goal is to get back as soon as possible,” he said, just before the Mets faced a disappointing 7-0 defeat to the Cardinals at Citi Field.

Manager Carlos Mendoza echoed that sentiment, suggesting Lindor might be back in action this week, after which the team will make further decisions about next steps.

Even though Lindor hasn’t run the bases yet, he expressed optimism: “I can do everything. I feel like I’m getting better. I continue to check all the boxes that they gave me.” Running at full speed will be one of his final evaluations, but he feels encouraged by his current state.

“I don’t feel any discomfort,” Lindor stated. “Of course I want to play, but everything I’ve been told indicates that things are progressing as planned.” It’s safe to say that while he might be eager to return, a rehabilitation stint seems likely before his re-entry into the lineup.

Lindor’s injury isn’t an isolated issue. Interestingly, he got hurt on the same day that Juan Soto came back from a similar calf issue. This highlights one of the Mets’ ongoing challenges: having their star players unavailable simultaneously.

In other news, Mendoza shared that an MRI on Jorge Polanco’s ankle didn’t show any issues, leading the team to adjust their pregame routines. Even with a potential return, first base may not be on the table for Polanco right away.

This leaves the organization considering their other options. Ryan Clifford, a promising first baseman, still requires more development and playing time with Triple-A Syracuse before he can be a viable choice at the major league level.
