Francisco Lindor Shines in Return Despite Injury

In a bit of a surprise, Francisco Lindor made his comeback to the lineup on Saturday after sitting out two games due to two broken toes on his right foot. He certainly made an impact, going 3-for-5 against the Rockies and stealing two bases not once, but twice!

After the Mets cruised to an 8-1 win at Coors Field, Lindor expressed his feelings: “I’m sure no one expects me to go. I used it to try to make something happen.” It’s clear he was determined to contribute.

Beyond his earlier hits, Lindor also came through with a crucial pinch-hit two-run double in the ninth inning, which helped secure the Mets’ victory. It was quite a sight to see him on the move—twice—despite his broken toes.

Carlos Mendoza, the Mets’ manager, had some positive words about Lindor’s performance. “He’s a player and he’s not going to step back,” Mendoza said, adding that if Lindor’s in the lineup, he’s giving it his all. “I saw it right away. Two of them. Great job, but we are not surprised by it.”

On Sunday, Frankie Montas is set to pitch around 80 pitches in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse. Mendoza indicated that Montas, recovering from a torn lat muscle, may need at least one more start before joining the Mets’ rotation.

Switching gears, there’s also Francisco Alvarez, the Mets’ catcher, who hasn’t been as sharp lately. Although he’s not lacking much in the batting department, he’s been struggling a bit with his slugging percentage, only managing two extra-base hits over a stretch of 24 games. “I’m going to drive the ball at some point,” Alvarez stated. “I feel good about where I am.” His recent performance shows a minor improvement, as he’s hitting .250 over his last five games.

Additionally, Alvarez is preparing for a major personal change—he’s expecting the birth of his daughter soon. Just in case things get hectic, Hayden Senger has been brought along with the team as a backup.
