Francisco Lindor’s grand slam lifts Mets into NLCS as magical ride continues

Be comfortable, New York Mets fans. The magic carpet journey continues.

The Metropolitans, reliving their infamous 1973 season's “Miracle” moniker, were headed to the NLCS after winning Game 4 of the Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, but they won It was accomplished in a way.

The Mets loaded the bases again in the sixth inning before an out was recorded, this time for a profit.

Francisco Lindor, the team's most valuable player, overcame this magic carpet journey over and over again, hitting a grand slam to give New York a 4-1 lead.

In the 9th inning, Edwin Diaz came in as a pinch hitter and walked the first two batters to get on base. But after striking out Cody Clemens, he forced Brandon Marsh to fly out.

Then the story of Kyle Schwarber came up. His resume in October speaks for itself. At bat against the closer, Schwarber went 0-for-9 with seven strikeouts and missed an outside corner slider to give the Mets a 4-1 victory.

This will be the Mets' first trip to the NLCS since 2015, when they won the pennant.

Jose Quintana started and pitched five innings, allowing one run. Because the run was not earned, his postseason ERA remains at 0.00 even after pitching six scoreless innings in a do-or-die game against the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card Series.

The Mets are starting to feel like a team of destiny. New York had a chance to be eliminated from postseason contention on the final day of the season, but the Mets split a wild doubleheader and won. And in the Wild Card Series, they almost went home with two outs left.

Pete Alonso, who was leading 2-0, hit a three-run home run. It was the first time in MLB history that a player accomplished this while his team was behind after the ninth inning of a winner-take-all postseason game.

This is another tough exit for the Phillies, who have literally regressed. They lost in the World Series in 2022 and lost in the NLCS last year. This is a quick farewell to the Division Series. They did the same from 2008 to 2011, followed by an 11-year postseason drought.
