Frank Ragnow Comes Out of Retirement
It looks like Frank Ragnow is set to make a return, as the Lions have, well, kind of confirmed that the 29-year-old offensive lineman will be back on the field. He’s expected to take up his center position for Detroit in their upcoming Thanksgiving game against the Packers.
There’s still some uncertainty around when he will actually play and whether he’ll jump right back into the starting lineup on offense.
Ragnow had briefly retired in June, citing health issues, but it seems like those reasons haven’t kept him from wanting to play again.
This could really help the Lions’ offense, which has had its fair share of challenges this season, particularly in protecting quarterback Jared Goff, who has faced 23 sacks so far.
Interestingly, just a few weeks ago, Lions coach Dan Campbell had claimed that “the ship has sailed” regarding Ragnow’s NFL return. He stated, “If Frank really wanted to play, he would blow up my cell phone, and I haven’t gotten a text message yet,” during a radio interview.
Throughout his career, Ragnow has played and started in 96 games, with the majority at center, earning Pro Bowl honors four times.
Originally drafted in the first round by the Lions in 2018 from Arkansas State, he’s also noted for being a two-time All-American.
His return was well-received on social media, with recently retired Eagles center Jason Kelce expressing his excitement: “This is great for the Lions. I can’t wait to see Frank come back and do his thing!”
The Lions are currently sitting at 7-5 this season and are vying for a spot in the NFC playoffs.
