Frankie Luv’s Suspension Reduced

Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luv has had his one-game suspension overturned, allowing him to play this Sunday against the Detroit Lions, according to an announcement from the NFL on Tuesday.

Initially, Luv was handed a one-game suspension without pay due to multiple violations of rules aimed at ensuring player safety. The most recent infraction occurred during Washington’s 38-14 defeat against Seattle, where he executed his third hip-drop tackle of the season.

This isn’t the first time Luv has faced discipline; he was fined earlier in the season during Weeks 4 and 8.

The NFL has specific guidelines regarding tackling techniques, detailed in Rule 12, Section 2, which prohibits certain moves that can jeopardize player health, such as dropping one’s weight onto a player’s legs.

However, following an appeal hearing, the league decided to reduce Luv’s punishment to a $100,000 fine instead of a suspension.

Michael Signora, the NFL’s senior vice president of football and international public affairs, shared this update, confirming that Luv will be eligible to participate in the upcoming game.

As a result of the suspension, Luv forfeited a match-day paycheck amounting to over $500,000.

In his second season with the Commanders, Luv has shown himself to be a dependable player. Last year, he played all 17 games, making 99 tackles, eight sacks, seven pass breakups, and one interception. This season, through nine games, he has accumulated 50 tackles, two sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
