Minnesota Governor Withdraws from Re-Election Amid Scandal

A Minnesota lawmaker expressed little surprise at Governor Tim Walz’s decision to withdraw from his re-election campaign, pointing to a growing corruption scandal as a significant factor. State Representative Kristin Robbins commented on “The Story,” saying, “We weren’t surprised. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Tim Walz intends to escape responsibility for allowing this massive fraud to take place in this state.” Robbins noted that the more investigations progress, the more the scale of the fraud becomes apparent, which, she believes, leaves Walz without a viable defense.

Walz announced his exit from the race for a third term on Monday, facing severe backlash over his management of a significant welfare fraud issue in the state. Reports have surfaced accusing various organizations, including daycare centers and nonprofits, of misappropriating up to $9 billion in taxpayer funds.

“I have come to the conclusion that I cannot devote myself fully to a political campaign,” he stated. “Every minute I spend defending my own political interests cannot be spent protecting the people of Minnesota from the criminals who prey on our generosity.” He emphasized his decision to let others take the lead regarding the election.

Robbins, who leads the Minnesota Anti-Fraud and Government Oversight Policy Commission, is set to testify before Congress soon.

Martha McCallum, host of “The Story,” displayed graphs highlighting the intended uses of the $9 billion, such as aiding recovering addicts and feeding children. In contrast, some funds were allegedly funneled into questionable expenses, including luxury real estate and overseas transfers.

Robbins, also vying for the Republican nomination for governor, argued that Governor Walz should be held accountable for his oversight of these financial affairs. She added that their committee will continue to hold hearings and that federal partners are investigating further.

James Comer, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman, reinforced the notion that Walz cannot evade accountability. He remarked, “Massive taxpayer fraud occurred on Tim Walz’s watch. He is either complicit in this theft or completely incompetent to prevent it.” Comer indicated that the investigation will push forward with hearings scheduled for February 10.

Fox News Digital reached out for comment from Walz’s office but has not yet received a reply.
