Freddie Freeman Makes 10th All-Star Appearance
Freddie Freeman, now 36, is gearing up for his 10th All-Star selection.
During the upcoming 2026 MLB All-Star Game, the Dodgers’ first baseman will make his sixth straight appearance, batting third for the National League.
Over the past five years with the Dodgers, Freeman has played a key role in leading the team to win the World Series for the last two seasons. He solidified his place in the Dodgers’ history with a dramatic walk-off home run against the Yankees in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series.
As the Dodgers chase their third consecutive championship, Freeman hasn’t decided when he might retire. However, the 2020 National League MVP shared his aspirations for the latter part of his distinguished career.
“I’ve always aimed to play until I’m 40,” Freeman mentioned at All-Star Media Day. “That’s still three years away, so…” he trailed off, as if pondering the possibilities.
Freeman, who has recently reflected on how his daughter’s birth has influenced his views on retirement, is currently signed with the Dodgers until the end of the 2027 season.
He hesitated to provide specific future plans, saying, “I’m not going to give you a hard number. Right now, I’m focusing on this season because I need to secure another contract. But reaching 20 years in the majors would be pretty cool and special.”
Even though he’s entering the twilight of his career, Freeman continues to perform at a high level. This season, he holds a batting average of .290, with 15 home runs and 49 RBIs, alongside an .862 OPS. Defensively, he’s impressive, ranking in the 82nd percentile with a positive rating in above-average outs.
Freeman’s impact isn’t limited to his playing abilities; as a veteran, he plays a significant role in guiding younger players in the Dodgers’ locker room. While his future with the team remains uncertain, his eventual induction into Cooperstown seems guaranteed.
