Freddie Freeman and his wife Chelsea have shared some good news about their three-year-old son Maximus, who was forced to hospital last week with a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome.
The Freemans posted on Instagram on Sunday night that Maximus had finally come home after spending eight days in the pediatric intensive care unit.
“Max still has a long way to go to regain his strength and learn to walk again,” the post read, “But we are so grateful that our family can be together again. We thank God for this miracle. We also thank the amazing team of doctors and angelic nurses who took such good care of our son. And we thank the village who have been so supportive on behalf of Charlie and Brandon.”
The post was accompanied by several photos of the Dodgers All-Star first baseman sitting next to Maxiumus and Chelsea in his hospital bed.
The carousel also included a photo of Freeman holding Maximus and a video of the couple’s two sons, apparently on a hospital visit, running up to hug their little brother.
Chelsea took her 3-year-old son to the hospital on July 24 after he stopped eating and drinking and became “very lethargic.”
The Dodgers star was accompanied to the hospital by his son and wife after the Dodgers’ 8-3 loss to the rival Giants that night.
Chelsea later revealed in a social media post last Thursday that Maximus’ condition “rapidly deteriorated and he became completely paralyzed.”
After numerous tests, doctors discovered “a rare neurological disorder, especially in children.”
Freeman is away from the Dodgers due to his son’s declining health, and the team placed him on the family emergency list.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday that he had been exchanging text messages with Freeman.
“The guys are saying they’re encouraged, so we’re just hoping and praying,” Roberts said, according to MLB.com.
Freeman is batting .288 with 16 home runs, 67 RBIs and 63 runs scored.
