A man with a screwdriver stabbed and injured a street cleaner and a police officer in France on Wednesday morning, before being shot and killed by another officer.
During a monthly “spring clean-up” on a street in Aubervilliers, a diverse suburb in the Seine-Saint-Denis department north of Paris, a city employee and a police officer were attacked by a man who allegedly attacked them “for no reason” with a screwdriver. The cleaner was stabbed “several times” with the screwdriver as police rushed to intervene.
The first police officer was also stabbed while trying to stop the attack, and a City Hall officer shot the suspect twice, who was brandishing a screwdriver. Le Figaro reportwas reportedly killed by gunfire.
The assailants reportedly “attacked employees for no reason.”
Mayor Karine Francquer was quoted as saying about the attack: “We strongly condemn the unacceptable acts of violence that led to this dramatic attack. We cannot tolerate any attack against those defending our city.”
